The magic 400!

Today saw Gelli Primary reach the magical number of 400 in the Yellow Pages Challenge!
In total we have collected 408 books! This is a tremendous effort and shows that nearly every child has brought in 2 books!

Now that we have reached the magical heights of 400, can we reach 450 or even 500?

After todays count we only need three more to hit the wonderful mark of 400! Please can you keep collecting the old Yellow Pages and see if we can hit the even higher mark of 450!

After this mornings count we now have a total of 365 Yellow Pages!

Please keep on sending in your old Yellow Pages! Every £ given to school by Yellow Pages is also given to the Woodland Trust to plant new trees!

Gelli Primary School has so far collected a fantasic 41 old Mobile Phones! Please can you check if you have any old mobile phones lying around! Thank you for your continued support!

Yellow Pages update!

Due to the fantastic response of children in Gelli Primary School we have collected a spectacular 352 Yellow Pages at the last count! Please keep collecting them as we hope to hit 400 by the end of next week!

Eco Schools Mobile Phone Recycling

If you are fortunate to have a new Mobile Phone from Father Christmas, what are you going to do with your old one? Gelli Primary School Eco Schools Council is recycling old mobile phones and hopefully raise money for school in the process. Please look in your cupboards and drawers for any unwanted sets and send them into us. Thank you!

Eco Schools Yellow Woods Challenge

We’re taking part in the Yellow Woods Challenge…… the environmental competition run by Yellow Pages, working with the Woodland Trust and our local council. The aim is to recycle the highest number of old Yellow Pages directories per pupil and win cash prizes for our school. And for every pound Yellow Pages awards to schools, they give a matching pound to the Woodland Trust. When your new Yellow Pages directory is delivered, please help our school and the environment by recycling your old one.Collecting old Yellow Pages directoriesChildren should only collect old directories from home and from people they know, with your permission. Please ask your family, friends, work mates and community groups to help our school by donating their old directories, too.We need to collect the old Yellow Pages directories as soon as possible. Eco School Council Elected

On Friday, the school elected the Eco School Council.
Congratulations to the following pupils who were successful in being elected.

Nursery - Alfie Dunning and Katie Darlington;
Reception - Sebastian Adams and Emily Street;
Year 1 – Ieuan Jacka and Yasmin Rodgers;
Year 2 – Carla Jones and Joel Evans;
Year 3 – Shannon Brookes and Keelan Davies;
Year 4 – Ethan Dunning and Abigail Maggs;
Year 5 – Tommy-Lee Gough and Rebecca Stoddart;
Year 6 – Luke Watkins and Holly Jones.

They will work with Mr. Jones in preparing us for the Eco Schools Bronze award.

Gelli Primary School holds Eco Schools Council elections

Friday 16th January 2009

Gelli Primary School will hold Eco School Council elections and choose representatives to serve the pupils and work with Mr. Jones to gain the acreditation for Eco Schools status.
We are already collecting last year's Yellow Pages and we are recycling used ink cartridges and old mobile telephones.
